Ethan Mbappe is set for a frustrating spell on the sidelines after suffering a significant thigh tendon injury playing for Lille.

The young midfielder was forced off during the 4–1 defeat to Strasbourg on January 25, and further tests have now confirmed the extent of the damage.

Reports from Foot Mercato say Mbappe has sustained a partial rupture of the tendon in his right thigh, a serious but not complete tear. That diagnosis offers some hope, as it leaves room for a flexible recovery schedule rather than ruling him out for many months automatically.

For now, the midfielder is expected to miss at least two months of action while he begins an intensive rehabilitation programme with Lille’s medical staff.

His actual return date will depend on how his body responds to treatment over the coming weeks. A comeback before the end of the season is still possible, but far from guaranteed, and the club will not rush him back.

Lille’s doctors will keep monitoring progress closely before deciding when Mbappe is ready to rejoin full training and compete again.
