Head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns Miguel Cardoso has provided a worrying injury update on new signing Monnapule Saleng, revealing the attacker could be ready for his first appearance in the next two months.
Saleng arrived injured in the recently concluded winter transfer window in what was a shock move for the local football fraternity. Since joining the Brazilian, the attacker has yet to make his debut for the club.
Speaking ahead of Gomora United clash, Cardoso has disclosed the former Orlando Pirates and Orbit Collee midfielder is working around the clock to regain full fitness.
“Saleng is recovering very positively. If you remember, I spoke about Saleng in a negative approach. We may probably have him out for the next two months,” Cardoso said.
“I also want to take some pressure away from his recovery and himself. I believe it will not be necessary all the time. Eventually, he will come back to normal training. We have to understand if he’s feeling well physically and fitness-wise, capable of helping the team, and make him understand a few details on what we want from him.”
The midfielder will watch the highly competitive Nedbank Cup game against Gomora United from the stands. Meanwhile, the attacker will be hoping to make a swift return to action, following a shock winter switch.
