Jean N’Guessan has joined Khor Fakkan on loan from Al-Wassl until the end of the season, as the Emirati club looks to bolster its squad in a bid to avoid relegation.
The move comes at a critical point in Khor Fakkan’s campaign. The club currently sits 10th in the league table with 15 points, holding only a four-point cushion above the relegation places.
In response to that precarious position, the management has turned to the 22-year-old Ivory Coast Under-23 international in the hope that his energy and experience can help stabilise the team during the run-in.
N’Guessan arrived at Al-Wassl in 2024 after leaving French side Metz, signing a three-year contract with the Dubai-based club. Since then, his opportunities have been limited.
He has made 10 appearances in all competitions, starting six matches and scoring once, but has struggled to secure a regular place in the starting line-up. The loan move offers him the chance for increased game time and a more prominent role at a crucial stage of the season.
Primarily deployed in midfield, N’Guessan is viewed as a player capable of adding balance and intensity, qualities Khor Fakkan believe are necessary as they battle to preserve their top-flight status.
His arrival is part of a wider effort to inject fresh momentum into the squad and address recent inconsistencies in performance.
At international level, N’Guessan has represented Ivory Coast at Under-23 level and has also had exposure to the senior national team. He earned a call-up for a match against Madagascar in 2020, which ended in a 1-1 draw during Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, underlining his early promise on the international stage.
Born in Daloa, the midfielder has followed a varied club career despite his young age. He began in Ivory Coast with RC Abidjan before moving to Europe, where he spent time with OGC Nice, Lausanne Sport and Nîmes Olympique.
His progression continued at Metz, prior to his transfer to Al-Wassl in the United Arab Emirates.
For Khor Fakkan, the loan signing represents both a short-term solution and a calculated risk. With the margins between safety and relegation narrow, the club will be hoping N’Guessan can quickly adapt to his new surroundings and make a tangible impact in the closing weeks of the season.
