Al-Hilal have reportedly begun moves to secure the future of another key figure in their squad, with the club opening discussions to renew the contract of experienced defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
According to a report by Al Riyadh newspaper on Wednesday, the Saudi champions are keen to extend Koulibaly’s stay by an additional year as part of plans to maintain stability within the squad.
The report added that head coach Simone Inzaghi has personally recommended the renewal of the 34-year-old Senegalese centre back’s contract. His advice reportedly came after the club successfully completed negotiations to extend the deal of Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves.
Koulibaly’s current contract with Al-Hilal is set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, although it includes a clause that allows for a one-year extension.
Earlier on Wednesday, Al-Hilal officially announced that Neves had signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2029, effectively ending speculation surrounding his future.
Since joining Al-Hilal in the summer of 2023, Koulibaly has established himself as a cornerstone of the team’s defensive setup. He has featured in 110 matches across all competitions and played a vital role in the club’s domestic treble triumph during the 2023/2024 season.
