Mario Balotelli, the AC Milan star recently named the most brilliant athlete by Sports Illustrated, has become a victim of racism. However, the mayor of Verona, Flavio Tosi, a member of the Northern League, has shocked many by suggesting that Balotelli provokes such incidents.
Tosi stated, “If Balotelli provoked a little less, it would be better. There are a lot of colored players in Italy, and those who don’t anger the fans don’t have a problem. Balotelli is good at making himself unsympathetic.”
In response to such comments, Balotelli, speaking to Sports Illustrated, emphasized his commitment to fighting racism: “You can’t stop smoking if you don’t give yourself the means to do so. You can’t fight racism if people don’t want to. But I will do everything possible to fight this scourge.”
