Wydad Casablanca winger Hakim Ziyech has publicly criticised the officiating following his side’s African Confederation Cup clash with Maniema Union on Sunday.
The Moroccan star took to Instagram after the Group B encounter to vent his frustration with the Nigerian referee, accusing him of inconsistency over a key disciplinary decision.
“Welcome to Africa… where you give the goalkeeper a second yellow card, then suddenly claim you gave it to the defender… this is the level of the referees,” Ziyech wrote, clearly angered by decisions he felt influenced the outcome of the match.
Wydad fell to a 2–1 defeat against the Congolese outfit in the fourth round of the group stage. Despite the loss, the Moroccan giants remain top of Group B with nine points, level with Maniema Union. Tanzania’s Azam United sit third on six points, while Kenya’s Nairobi United remain bottom without a point.
Wydad will next turn their attention to a fifth-round group-stage fixture against Nairobi United as they look to secure qualification for the knockout phase.
