Zamalek forward Oday Dabbagh says victory against Al Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage clash was imperative.
The Cairo-based outfit cruised to a 2-1 victory over their Egyptian counterparts in the fourth round of the Cup competition on Sunday, with Dabbagh scoring his first continental goal for Zamalek.
“I congratulate the Zamalek fans who support us on the victory, as well as the players and everyone.”
“We are suffering from many absences and we were affected by the long break, but we won against Al Masry and before that in the league.”
“We knew the importance of the Al-Masry match and winning was mandatory, and I think we could have won by a bigger margin.”
“Zamalek is a big club in Africa and has many experienced players who know how to play the game, and we wasted many opportunities.”
Dabbagh continued to extend his lead in the Zamalek top scorers list across all competitions with 6 goals this season. He is followed by Nasser Maher, who moved to Pyramids with 4 goals.
With this victory, Zamalek moved to the top of the group with 8 points, while Al Masry’s tally remained at seven points, equal with South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs. Zesco are bottom of the group with zero points.
