Bayer Leverkusen head coach Kasper Hjulmand has provided an update on Ibrahim Maza after the attacking midfielder missed the 3–1 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt with knee problems.
The coach made it clear that the 20-year-old is not facing a long spell on the sidelines, but his return in the coming days remains open.
“It is not a major injury,” Hjulmand insisted, saying there is hope Maza could feature during the upcoming English week, when Leverkusen play three matches in a short span.
The Bundesliga leaders are back in action on Tuesday, hosting FC St. Pauli in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals, before travelling to Borussia Mönchengladbach four days later on Matchday 21.
Asked specifically whether Maza might be available for either game, Hjulmand kept his options open.
“We do not know yet. We have to see in the next two days, maybe Tuesday, maybe Saturday – we will see what happens,” he explained, underlining that the medical team will monitor the youngster closely before any final decision is made on his involvement.
