Tanta Sporting Club has officially lodged a complaint with the Second Division Competitions Committee, a part of the Egyptian Football Association, contesting the sanctions imposed on their coach and defender.
The penalties stemmed from the referee’s report following Tanta’s match against Laveen last Monday, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The committee had notified Tanta of the suspension of their head coach, Amr Anwar, for four matches, along with a fine of 2000 Egyptian pounds.
Additionally, defender Saheer Abdel-Moneim received a two-match suspension and a 2000-pound fine.
The basis for these sanctions was the alleged protest against the match referee following the game.
Tanta’s football committee vehemently denied any misconduct towards the referee.
They clarified that the incident was merely an objection due to the non-awarding of a clear penalty for Tanta, as the ball had touched the hand of a Laveen defender.
Moreover, they contested the referee’s decision to add more than seven minutes of injury time in the second half, despite the match not experiencing such a lengthy stoppage.
This allowed the opposing team a chance to equalize in the last minute.
The committee expressed astonishment at the suspension of defender Saheer Abdel-Moneim, arguing that the player had immediately headed to the dressing room after the final whistle, dispelling any notion of misconduct towards the referee.
The appeal seeks a fair review of the penalties, emphasizing the team’s commitment to the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
