Villarreal head coach Marcelino Garcia Toral has expressed his displeasure about Thomas Partey’s output since joining the club, stressing his underwhelming has cost him a regular playing time at the club.

The Black Stars deputy captain has struggled for regular playing time since joining the Spanish outfit as a free agent last summer, dropping down the pecking order to Senegal star Pape Gueye and 17-year-old academy graduate Carlos Macia.

Partey’s situation worsened on Wednesday night after being subbed off at halftime in the Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen, where the side succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in the encounter.

Speaking after the Leverkusen clash, Marcelino openly criticized Partey’s underwhelming performance, as the Spanish club bowed out of the Champions League campaign.

“There is a world of difference between the Thomas we knew at Arsenal and this one,” said Marcelino. “A world of difference. It’s very difficult to play at this pace in today’s football”

“I think it’s been six months, and that’s enough time for this player to show us what he was or what he’s showing now,” he added.

The 32-year-old Ghana international joined Villarreal as a free agent last summer after ending his spell with Arsenal following the expiration of his contract.
