Signs of a breakthrough have emerged in the ongoing dispute between Zamalek and Moroccan international Mahmoud Bentayg, with the crisis now appearing close to a resolution after weeks of tension.
The situation escalated after Bentayg missed training sessions and moved to unilaterally terminate his contract, citing the club’s failure to meet agreed financial obligations.
The defender had previously activated a legal warning clause, protesting delays in the payment of both his salary and his agent’s fees, before taking the decisive step to end his deal.

Egyptian media reports indicate that Bentayg is now awaiting the settlement of his outstanding dues, following assurances that a payment ranging between 170,000 and 200,000 dollars will be transferred to him shortly.
The amount is expected to cover a significant portion of his delayed earnings, alongside the resolution of his agent’s financial claims.
Further reports suggest that the involvement of a figure close to the club played a key role in easing tensions and narrowing the gap between the two sides.
This intervention is said to have helped push negotiations toward a friendly settlement, a move that could restore calm within the squad at a crucial point in the season.
Bentayg is reportedly on the verge of rejoining group training sessions once the promised payments are received, with firm guarantees in place regarding the timely settlement of his remaining instalments. Such assurances are expected to bring the dispute to a definitive close.
The latest progress comes as Zamalek gear up for a challenging league encounter against Petrojet on Wednesday at the Cairo International Stadium in the 16th round of the Egyptian Premier League. The White Knights are also seeking to regain momentum after a goalless draw against Al Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Zamalek’s management is hopeful that resolving the Bentayg issue will help restore stability within the squad, allowing the team to refocus on improving performances and results in both domestic and continental competitions.
