ZESCO United CEO Kelvin Mutafu has issued a stern warning to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash.
The two Southern African powerhouses will meet at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola this Sunday, with kick-off set for 15:00.
ZESCO United, popularly known as Team Ya Ziko, are still searching for their first points in Group D, while Kaizer Chiefs have managed just one point from their opening two games. With both teams under pressure, the encounter is expected to be highly competitive.
Mutafu has urged Chiefs not to underestimate the Zambian side, insisting ZESCO United remain a formidable opponent.
“I think a lot of people have seen the way we started in the cup because ZESCO United is not a pushover,” Mutafu told ZNBC’s Kwacha Good Morning Zambia.
“We started on checkmate, but believe me, we’ll be able to turn around and come out of this group stage.
“If you remember when we were in the first round, it was also like that, but the team showed character. We were able to come out of the first round and we are in the group stage.
“Exactly in the group stage, I think we are ready to pick a point. But if you see what is happening and what you have done behind the curtains, we are enforcing the team,” he added.
Mutafu also appealed to ZESCO United supporters to rally behind the team.
“At ZESCO, we are here in the cup, not playing for ZESCO, but we are playing for the nation. So we are appealing to our fans out there, the football fraternity to come in numbers and push this.”
