Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has confirmed he will sit down with Achraf Hakimi for a personal conversation to assess his physical and emotional state after the defender’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Hakimi rejoined PSG training this week, only days after the disappointment of losing the AFCON final with Morocco.
The Moroccan international took part in Thursday’s session alongside his teammates as the French champions prepare for their league match against Auxerre on Friday. Hakimi has been carrying an injury since early November, but there is growing optimism at the club that he could be ready to rejoin the matchday squad despite suffering from a “small physical problem.”
Luis Enrique explained that the final decision on Hakimi’s involvement will depend on how the player feels in training and what he shares in their individual meeting. The Spanish coach underlined the importance of understanding both the defender’s physical readiness and his personal mindset following the emotional toll of AFCON.
He said: “It depends on his training. I want to talk to him; for me it is important to know how he feels and what he thinks personally. He has returned to the team and is in good condition, with a small physical issue that is not serious. Maybe he will play tomorrow and maybe not, and that will be my decision after discussing things with him.”
Hakimi’s situation comes at a sensitive moment, with PSG looking to maintain momentum in domestic competition while carefully managing the workload of key players.
The defender’s swift reintegration, balanced with proper recovery, will be crucial as the club heads into a demanding stretch of the season on both the domestic and European fronts.
