Despite numerous protests, the election for a new president at the helm of the Sierra Leone Football Federation (SLFA) took place on Saturday, resulting in the election of Isha Johansen. The 48-year-old woman was the sole candidate in the running after the removal of five competitors, including former international Mohammed Kallon.
Expressing her eagerness for a new era in football management in Sierra Leone, Johansen stated, “I am impatient for a new management of football to emerge in Sierra Leone. People should expect a president who will encourage the development of football, which leads to more education because there are so many young children who want to play football but don’t want to go to school. We will also see women’s football develop.”
Johansen’s first challenge will be to negotiate the resumption of the first division championship after ten clubs announced their withdrawal in support of Mohammed Kallon, who ultimately did not succeed in the election.
