A South African Premier League football match between Platinum Stars and Wits University in Rustenburg, Northwest Province, was nearly called off due to a lack of match officials. The match was eventually delayed by an hour on Sunday, and the reason behind it was the arrest of the match referee and his assistant, who were found driving a stolen car while en route to the stadium.
The police arrested the referees and took them to the police station. Fortunately, after what was described as “good cooperation between the police and the championship,” the referees were released, allowing the match to proceed. The game concluded with a 0-0 draw.
