Contrary to earlier speculations linking him to Lille, John Utaka has surprised many by signing a two-year contract with Sivasspor. The Turkish club officially announced the deal on their website this Wednesday.
Utaka, who was out of contract with Montpellier, has opted for a new challenge under the coaching of Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos at Sivasspor. The former Super Eagle, who also played for Lens and Rennes in France, has a diverse career history that includes stints in Egypt (Arab Contractors, Ismaily), England (Portsmouth), and Qatar (Al Sadd).
It’s worth noting that another Turkish club, Bursaspor, had shown interest in signing Utaka but was unsuccessful in securing his services.
