Al Ahly were not initially convinced about signing Youssef Belamari – Ahmed Shobeir
Former Al Ahly star Ahmed Shobeir has revealed that technical director, Yes Torop, was initially unconvinced that Youssef Belamari was the right solution for the club’s left-back position.
According to Shobeir, Torop made his stance clear from the outset, believing the team required a player with greater physical presence and technical readiness to fully meet his tactical demands on the left flank.
However, Shobeir noted that Al-Ahly’s management stepped in to address the issue, assuring the coach of their full confidence in Belamari’s abilities.
The club hierarchy, he explained, maintained that the defender had been closely monitored and thoroughly assessed, and that he possesses the qualities needed to add value to the squad.
Following discussions with the management, Torop is said to have respected the club’s viewpoint, making it clear that he had no objection to signing Belamari as long as it aligned with the club’s decision.
Shobeir concluded by stressing that performances on the pitch will ultimately determine Belamari’s future at Al-Ahly.
While any player can remain at the club if they meet expectations, he emphasized that a place in the starting lineup will only go to those delivering at the highest level.
