The Rabat Court of First Instance has delivered a decisive ruling in the case involving an Algerian football fan widely referred to as “the one who urinates in the stands,” bringing an abrupt and controversial end to an incident that sparked outrage across social media.
The individual had been held for several days as investigations into the matter continued.
According to reports from Moroccan media, the court handed down an immediately enforceable sentence of three months in prison, along with a fine of 500 Moroccan dirhams.
The ruling followed the fan being charged with two offences: public indecency and the use of expressions that violate public morals and ethics toward an individual or group in the context of a sporting event.
The judgment forms part of broader efforts by Moroccan authorities to reinforce discipline within stadiums and ensure respect for ethical standards and public order.
Officials have stressed that such measures are necessary to protect spectators’ comfort and preserve the integrity of sporting competitions.
The case gained widespread attention after a video, posted by the fan himself on social media, surfaced online.
In the footage, he openly admitted to urinating in the stands of the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium, a revelation that immediately triggered strong condemnation.
Public reaction was swift and intense, with many Moroccan social media users calling for firm punishment, describing the act as a clear violation of the law and public decency.
The incident also drew criticism from Algerians, a significant number of whom rejected the behaviour outright, labelling it a departure from chivalry and acceptable conduct, and an unjustified affront to moral and civilised values.
