Anjorin Moucharafou has decided not to run for re-election at the helm of the Benin Football Federation (FBF). This decision, announced on Monday evening, has stirred discussions in local football circles. The outgoing president has chosen to step aside after facing numerous criticisms during his tenure.
Moucharafou faced accusations of embezzlement from a Beninese economic operator who financed the championship. Although he was initially imprisoned, he was later rehabilitated. Moucharafou, who has been a target of discontent within Beninese football, believes he has fulfilled his mission and now intends to focus on his responsibilities at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), where he is a member of the Executive Committee.
In December, a court decision removed Moucharafou from his position after contested elections that saw Victorien Attolou declared the winner. However, FIFA pressured the Benin government, leading to Moucharafou’s reinstatement, threatening the country with sanctions. The FBF’s elective assembly is scheduled for August 24.
