Morocco forward Hamza Igamane is a major doubt for the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico following an injury setback at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Igamane, who joined the French club last summer succumbed to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while in action for the Morocco in the blockbuster final against Senegal last Sunday.

The forward was introduced in the first half of the extra-time, entering the field in the 97th minute, before being forced off with injury minutes later, following a collision with the Senegalese goalkeeper.

He is expected to be sidelined for several setback with the injury sustained the continental showpiece in Morocco, putting World Cup hopes in doubt.

“Tests carried out on the player have unfortunately confirmed a serious injury. Hamza Igamane has indeed suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” Lille said in a statement. “Hamza will be unavailable for several months,”

This come as a huge blow not only for Lille, but for Morocco who are gearing up for the tournament, scheduled to take place between June-July.

Morocco are paired in Group C alongside, Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti following the draw in Washington last month.

Since joining Lille last summer, the 23-year-old has made 21 appearances, scoring 9 goals and delivering two assists across competitions.
