Niger has been eliminated from the final phase of the CHAN (African Nations Championship), a tournament reserved for players plying their trade on the continent. Despite losing the first leg (1-0), Mena managed to overturn the deficit in the return leg with Barka Kadé Sami scoring in the 70th minute.
However, the fate of the tie was ultimately decided in a penalty shootout, where Niger conceded to Burkina Faso. The Stallions will now advance to the final phase of the CHAN, scheduled to take place in South Africa in January and February 2014.
With this result, Burkina Faso joins other qualified teams such as Uganda, Tanzania, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa (as the organizing country) in the upcoming CHAN tournament.
