Ivory Coast started the game with determination, and Kevin Zougoula opened the scoring in the 6th minute, taking advantage of a Nigerian defense that seemed unprepared. Zougoula added another goal in the 24th minute, this time from the penalty spot. However, despite their efforts, the Elephants couldn’t find the additional goals needed to overturn the aggregate score, and the match ended without further scoring.
With this result, Nigeria advanced to the next stage, while Ivory Coast’s comeback effort fell short. In earlier qualifiers, Uganda and Tanzania secured their places, and Zambia, with a draw against Botswana, positioned themselves well for qualification. Other teams like Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, and South Africa (as the organizing country) have also earned spots in the CHAN 2014 tournament.
