Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, the charismatic supporter who became a symbol of DR Congo’s backing at AFCON 2025, received formal honours on Sunday from his country.
Sports Minister Didier Budimbu announced that Michel Nkuka Mboladinga has been appointed as a sports brand ambassador and a representative for all matters related to sport in the nation, in appreciation of his influence and connection with the public.
During his visit, the minister explained that the decision reflects the authorities’ belief in the power of sport to strengthen national unity and promote coexistence and peace among Congolese people. The move recognises how one passionate supporter managed to embody national pride on a continental stage.
With this new position, Lomomba will receive a car, a private office, and an official residence, underscoring the scale of support behind his new status. These rewards mark a remarkable journey for a fan who started simply as a familiar face in the stands and ended up a national figure.
Michel Nkuka’s rise came after he dominated the visual storylines of AFCON 2025 in Morocco, frequently appearing on screens as he portrayed Patrice Lumumba, the Congolese leader who resisted Belgian colonial rule in the mid-20th century.
