Former Saudi Arabia star Abdu Atif believes Al Nassr’s difficult run of form has actually worked in favor of Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, proving how much the team depends on his energy and work rate.
Speaking on the television show “Fi Al Marma” on Al Arabiya channel, Atif explained that the club’s recent stumbles have changed the way many view Mané’s contribution.
Atif said: “Al-Nassr’s setbacks in Mane’s absence have vindicated him, whether you criticize or praise him; the recent stumbles have done him justice.” He pointed out that while some had previously questioned Mane’s impact, the team’s results without him have drawn a clear picture. Since the Saudi league resumed after the 2025 Arab Cup break, Mane has been away on international duty with Senegal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and Al Nassr have clearly felt his absence.
Expanding on his point, Atif added: “It is true that the opponents were different, but Mane is equal on both the defensive and offensive sides; he gives his all for the team, unlike some stars who refuse to make defensive efforts and are content with attacking roles.” He praised Mané’s balance between attack and defense, stressing that the Senegalese star does not spare any effort for the team. Atif continued: “On the contrary, Mane does not take these considerations into account; he puts the team first before himself, so we find him balanced on both the offensive and defensive sides, and he sacrifices for the team.”
During Mané’s absence, Al Nassr have managed just one league win, with four setbacks, one draw and three defeats, dropping them to second place in the Saudi Pro League, seven points behind leaders Al Hilal.
In contrast, Mane has been shining with Senegal at AFCON 2025, helping his national team reach the final by scoring two goals, including one against Egypt in the semi‑final, and providing two assists.
