Wadii El Jery’s withdrawal from the candidacy for the executive committee of the Arab Football Union (UAFA) has implications for the leadership structure. This move allows the president of the Algerian football federation, Mohamed Raouraoua, to maintain his position within the committee after the elective general assembly held on July 14 and 15, 2013. Raouraoua will now serve for a fourth term alongside fellow committee members Mouaâtassam Djomâa (Sudan), Hani Abou Rida (Egypt), and Ali Al Fassi El Fahri (Morocco).
The UAFA statutes stipulate that Asia and Africa jointly hold eight positions on the executive committee, with four representatives from each continent.
The president of the Yemeni football federation, Ahmed Al Absi, has also reportedly withdrawn his candidacy. However, on the Asian side, challenges persist with five candidates vying for four places: Salah Eddine Abdellah (Jordan), Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem (United Arab Emirates), Nadjeh Hamoud Harib (Iraq), Mbarek El Maâsab (Kuwait), and Mahmoud Rabâa (Lebanon).
