The Senegal Football Federation has issued a strong warning to supporters ahead of Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final showdown against Egypt, urging fans to refrain from using flares, laser pointers or any prohibited objects inside the stadium.
In an official statement released on Monday evening, the federation addressed concerns surrounding the highly anticipated encounter, which will be staged at the Tangier Stadium as part of the AFCON 2025 semi-final fixtures.
Senegal booked their place in the last four after edging Mali 1-0, while Egypt advanced with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ivory Coast. With excitement building ahead of the clash, Senegalese media reports earlier suggested attempts had been made to identify the individual who used a laser pointer during Egypt’s match in 2022, allegedly to invite him to Wednesday’s game.
Responding firmly, the Senegal Football Federation stressed that such behaviour would not be tolerated.
“We reiterate strongly that the introduction and use of flares, laser pointers or any other dangerous object is strictly prohibited inside the stadium, as well as in its immediate vicinity,” the statement read.
The federation warned of the serious consequences associated with such actions.
“These practices seriously endanger the safety of players, officials and the public, and clearly damage the image of Senegalese football on the international stage,” it said.
Supporters have been urged to act responsibly and comply fully with stadium regulations, particularly in light of previous disciplinary issues.
According to the statement, Senegal has already been subjected to strict sanctions from the Confederation of African Football following incidents during their matches against Benin, which ended 3-0, and Mali, which finished 1-0, earlier in the tournament.
