Victor Osimhen used Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria to send a powerful message about leadership, insisting the team’s success matters more than his individual numbers.
The striker scored one goal and set up the other in Marrakech as the Super Eagles marched into the AFCON 2025 semifinals.
Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, rising high to bury a thunderous header from Bruno Onyemaechi’s pinpoint cross for his fourth goal of the tournament. Ten minutes later, he turned provider, slipping Akor Adams through on goal, with the forward rounding Luca Zidane and finishing calmly to make it 2–0 and effectively end Algerian resistance.
Named Man of the Match, Osimhen downplayed his own display, stressing that “we shouldn’t focus on my personal performance; we should focus on the team effort,” and highlighting how influencing the game for the national team goes beyond just scoring.
Nigeria then managed the match with maturity, shutting down Algeria’s attacks and protecting their lead as they secured a record 16th AFCON semifinal, where they will face hosts Morocco in Rabat.
