Victor Osimhen has thrown down a clear challenge to hosts Morocco ahead of their AFCON 2025 semifinal, speaking with confidence after Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Algeria.
The Super Eagles booked their last‑four place with a strong performance in Marrakech, while Morocco advanced by beating Cameroon 2-0 in Rabat.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS MAX, Osimhen said the Moroccan team “respects us just as we respect them,” stressing that Nigeria also see themselves as contenders for the title despite Morocco enjoying home support. The striker expressed his happiness at reaching such an important stage of the tournament and underlined that his side respects all opponents at this edition.
Reflecting on the Algeria match, the 2023 African Player of the Year admitted it was far from easy, praising the quality and toughness of the Algerian squad. He added that Nigeria’s players also possess outstanding technical ability and explained that they approached the game with caution to limit Algeria’s attacking threat.
Osimhen’s goal against Algeria took his tally to 4 in the tournament, keeping him in close pursuit of Morocco’s Brahim Diaz, who leads the scoring charts with 5 goals as the semi‑final showdown between the two stars, and their nations draws closer.
