It has been officially confirmed that Idrissa Gueye will continue his stay in the north of France, as he extended his contract with Lille for an additional three seasons. The Senegalese midfielder is now committed to the Mastiffs until 2018.
A press release on Lille’s official website emphasized Gueye’s importance to the team and highlighted his role as a key player in the Lille midfield, both in the current season and in the future. At the age of 23, Gueye is seen as embodying the future of LOSC.
During the 2012-2013 financial year, Gueye made 29 appearances in Ligue 1, showcasing his significance to the team. The press release also mentioned his successful performance in meeting expectations during the extended absence of Rio Mavuba, who was seriously injured in his knee.
Gueye will continue playing under the management of René Girard, who took over from Rudi Garcia as the head coach of LOSC.
