It seems that Djibril Cissé, a French striker of Ivorian origin, was released from his contract by Queens Park Rangers after their relegation to the English second division. Despite his desire to return to Ligue 1, he ended up signing a one-year deal with an option for Kuban Krasnodar, a Russian club. Initially, there were reports of negotiations with Montpellier, but those discussions ultimately proved unsuccessful.
In an interview with L’Equipe, Cissé revealed that negotiations with Montpellier were close to reaching an agreement until the club’s president made a surprising exit. Cissé expressed concern about joining a club where there was instability from the start, stating that it would likely lead to issues during the season. He mentioned a potential lack of support if he faced difficulties on the field and suggested that it could spiral out of control. As a result, he opted for the opportunity with Kuban Krasnodar in Russia instead of pursuing a return to Ligue 1 with Montpellier.
