Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has pledged a substantial financial incentive to the team ahead of their crucial Round of 16 clash against Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Mambas booked their place in the knockout stages after finishing as one of the four best third-placed teams at the tournament.
Mozambique finished third in Group F, earning them a spot in the Round of 16 of the continental showpiece and marking a significant achievement for the nation.
Following the team’s knockout stage qualification, President Chapo has congratulated the players and coaching staff for making history by reaching the knockout rounds of the AFCON.
He praised their determination and commitment, describing the qualification as a proud moment for Mozambican football.
As the team gears up for the Nigeria showdown, the president has announced a performance-based bonus as a sign of motivation to the team.
Each player and member of the coaching staff will be entitled to 500,000 meticais if the side are able to pull off a shock victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The highly-competitive clash between Nigeria and Mozambique has been scheduled to take place on Monday, January 5, 2026.
