Ivory Coast international Ivan Guessand is confident his outfit can go far in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Elephant secured first place in Group F after an exciting match against Gabon at the end of the group stage.
Ivory Coast will square off with Burkina Faso on Tuesday, January 6 at 8 pm at Marrakech Stadium, the same route as Egypt in the quarter-finals.
As the team gears up for the last 16 clash against the Stallions, Guessand stressed his outfit are poised to go far the continental showpiece.
“We started the Gabon match badly and conceded two early goals, but we showed strength and remained resilient. We are one of the teams that can achieve something in this tournament” he told beIN SPORTS.
“We have goals in mind, and we want to go as far as possible. We recognize the quality of our team and hope that this confidence will continue until the end of the competition.”
The Elephants turned their deficit against Gabon into a 3-2 victory, securing them the top spot in the group at the expense of Cameroon on goal difference.
Guessand scored a goal in Ivory Coast’s victory over Gabon in the 84th minute, as the Elephant staged a strong comeback in the match.
On the other hand, Cameroon defeated Mozambique 2-1, so the Lions and the Elephants were tied in everything, 7 points, and goal difference, but the goals scored against Gabon tipped the scales in favor of Ivory Coast, who qualified as group leader.
As for the Cameroon national team, they moved to the other path, facing South Africa on Sunday, January 4 at 8 pm at the City Stadium in Rabat.
Meanwhile, Mozambique maintained its third position in the group with 3 points, from one win against Gabon, and will face Nigeria on Monday, January 5 at 8 pm at the sports complex in the city of Fez.
