In response to recent incidents of violence in Congolese stadiums, the Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture, and the Arts, Baudouin Banza Mukalayi Nsungu, has established the National Commission to Fight Corruption and Violence in stadiums. The commission, chaired by Armand Léonard Kitenge Lubanda, will take action against those involved in acts of violence in stadiums and subject them to legal consequences.
The decision to form this commission comes in the wake of violent incidents during the Vita Club derby against DCMP, where supporters from both teams threw projectiles onto the field, leading to the use of tear gas by the police and damage to stadium seats. These incidents prompted FIFA to impose a fine of $11,000 on the Democratic Republic of Congo after the match against Libya. The newly established commission aims to address and prevent such instances of violence in Congolese stadiums.
