Ivory Coast coach Emerse Faye has highlighted individual errors for his outfit sloppy start to their final group game against Gabon at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, being held in Morocco.
The defending champions staged a strong comeback to secure a 3-2 victory over the Panthers, as the Elephant finished on top of their group.
Ivory Coast topped their group on goal difference after accumulating same points with Cameroon, who eventually finished second.
Speaking after the game, Emerse Fae expressed his outfit gifted Gabon goals in the highly competitive clash, while expressing joy over his outfit first place finish in their group.
“We didn’t have a good first half, we gifted Gabon two goals in situations we should have avoided.” He told Canal Plus.
“We conceded two goals as a result of a series of individual errors that led to both goals.”
“We wanted to get first place in the group and we did that in the second half by turning the game around.”
Ivory Coast will face Burkina Faso on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Marrakech Stadium in the round 16 of the tournament.
