Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi celebrated his return to action following the Atlas Lions’ commanding 3–0 win over Zambia on Monday, a victory that secured the team’s place in the last 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Hakimi described the occasion as particularly special after a long spell away from the pitch.
“I missed playing so much, and I am very happy to be back. This match showed the spirit we have been looking for as a team,” he said.
The PSG defender also highlighted the impact of the fans, praising the stadium atmosphere for energizing the players.
“The game was also great for the supporters. The energy in the stands was exactly what we needed. We will give everything for the national jersey and to make our fans proud of the work we do.”
Reflecting on the team’s earlier draw with Mali, Hakimi acknowledged the frustration but said the performance against Zambia showcased Morocco’s true quality.
“We were disappointed after Mali, but today we showed the kind of team we are and the kind of team we must continue to be in the future,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Hakimi emphasized the need for sustained effort and focus.
“We are happy with the performance, but we must keep working the same way. This is the path forward.”
