Senegal star Sadio Mane lamented missed chances on Saturday after his side drew 1-1 with DR Congo in their second Group D match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In the exciting match between the two teams, a Cedric Bakambu strike gave D.R Congo the lead in the 61st minute before Mane struck in the 69th minute, forcing the contest to end in a stalemate.
Speaking after the match, the former Liverpool man acknowledged the quality in the D.R Congo team, but bemoaned how Senegal missed many chances.
“I think it was good match. We should have won, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert all our chances,” Mane said in his post-match interview.
The Al Nassr man continued, “That’s not problem. This is football. We faced very good and respectable opponent in Congo who also deserved a point.”
Despite the draw, Senegal remain top of the Group D standings with four points. The Teranga Lions will now turn attention to their final group match against Benin.
A draw in that game will be enough to guarantee Senegal’s place in the knockout stage of AFCON 2025.
