Swiss giants FC Zurich have acquired forward Joseph ‘Sabobo’ Banda from Zambian second side tier Atletico Lusaka FC, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Zambian U20 national team player has signed a five-year deal after impressing on trials.

The wonder kid expressed his joy to the Club’s media:

“I’m very happy to sign my first professional contract in Europe. It’s a dream come true. I want to thank Athletico Lusaka for all the support and belief in me, and I would also like to thank my agent, Nir Karin, for commencing this journey with me two years ago. I’m eager to start my new chapter with FC Zurich.”

In May last year, Sabobo took part in FC Zurich trials where he was part of the youth team that won the 2023 Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup.

However, Banda was unable to sign a professional contract because he was underage.

Sabobo joins his compatriot Miguel Chaiwa in Switzerland, who is on the books of BSC Young Boys.
