Trabzonspor are reported to be weighing up a move for Wolfsberger AC centre-back Chibuike Nwaiwu, with the Turkish club said to be tracking the Nigerian defender as a potential defensive reinforcement.
Data from transfer specialists lists a 40% probability of a deal being completed, with Nwaiwu currently valued at €6.00m. The move, if it progresses, would see the 22-year-old swap the Austrian Bundesliga for the Süper Lig, where Trabzonspor are looking to strengthen at the back.
Nwaiwu is under contract at Wolfsberger AC, but with no publicly listed expiry date, speculation persists that his situation could evolve, including the possibility of him moving on or even becoming a free agent further down the line if no agreement is found. For now, reports simply indicate that Trabzonspor are monitoring developments rather than closing in on a completed transfer.
The right-footed defender, who stands at 1.93m, joined Wolfsberger AC from Nigerian side Enyimba Aba in September 2024 after an earlier spell with FC Heartland in his home country. His rapid rise is reflected in a sharp climb in his estimated market value over the past year, climbing from hundreds of thousands of euros to its current €6.00m mark.
Born on 23 July 2003, Nwaiwu has built a reputation as a traditional centre-back, operating in the heart of defence and relying on his physical presence and aerial ability. His performances in Austria’s top flight have drawn increasing interest, with Wolfsberger AC providing his first European platform after domestic stints in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
While there are no indications yet of formal negotiations or a fee being agreed, a switch to Trabzonspor would represent a significant step up in profile, and could prove a pivotal moment in Nwaiwu’s career if the rumoured move eventually materialises.
