TOGO / CAN 2013: BOUKARI WITHDRAWS, AGODOMOU CALLED

Moutaka Agodomou 23

Moutaka Agodomou has been called up by Togo coach Didier Six for the final round of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon, replacing the injured Razak Boukari. Agodomou, who plays as a left-back for the Yéo Martial Football School (EFYM) in Ivory Coast’s first division, will make his first appearance for the Togo national team. The 30-year-old, who previously played in the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup at the cadet level in 2007, expressed his anticipation for the opportunity.

Agodomou, who has been playing professionally in Ivory Coast, believes that his experience in the Ivorian championship, which he considers more professional than Togo’s, has prepared him for this chance. If he impresses the coaching staff, Agodomou could secure a regular spot in the left-back position, a position that has been vacant since 2010. Having transferred to EFYM from the second division last season, Agodomou has ambitions to play in a European league and has reportedly attracted interest from some European clubs.

Despite being contacted by a Moldovan club, Agodomou’s current club president chose not to release him, expressing confidence in the player’s abilities. Agodomou sees this opportunity with the Togo national team as a chance to take control of his destiny and potentially make a mark in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Togo is set to face Gabon in Libreville on September 8, with the return leg scheduled for Lomé on October 14.
