Brama Traore hailed Burkina Faso’s dramatic comeback as the perfect way to launch their AFCON 2025 campaign, stressing how proud he was of his players’ resilience in Casablanca.

For Traoré, starting the tournament with a win was non-negotiable, and the late turnaround against Equatorial Guinea only made it more special.

He admitted the match “was not easy against a strong opponent in Equatorial Guinea, who caused us some problems,” but underlined that the group had come into Morocco determined to “enter the competition properly.”

Traoré explained that Burkina Faso initially tried a game plan he felt would secure victory, but the flow of the match forced him to adjust.

“We decided to play in a way that we believed would lead us to victory. After 60 minutes it was not possible to achieve that, so we worked hard to equalise and then pushed with all our strength to secure the win, which we are very happy about,” he said, describing the late surge that produced two stoppage-time goals.

Burkina Faso will play Algeria in their next group E game on December 28th.
