Edmond Tapsoba capped a heroic day in Casablanca by earning Man of the Match as Burkina Faso struck twice in stoppage time to beat Equatorial Guinea 2–1 at AFCON 2025.
The commanding defender had already been marshalling the backline when his big moment arrived deep into added time. With the score level and nerves fraying, Tapsoba burst into the box and powered home the winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time, sealing an unforgettable comeback and underlining why he was chosen as the game’s standout performer.
Equatorial Guinea, reduced to ten men early in the second half after a red card for Basilo Ndung, had somehow edged in front on 85 minutes through substitute Marvin Aniebo’s header from a Carlos Akapo corner. Burkina Faso, who had earlier seen a Lassina Traoré strike ruled out by VAR, refused to fold and kept flooding forward in search of a lifeline.
Their persistence finally told in the fifth minute of added time when substitute György Menongo pounced to make it 1–1 and reignite belief among the Stallions. Moments later, Tapsoba completed the turnaround, sparking wild celebrations among players and fans.
Burkina Faso will play Algeria in their next group E game on December 28th.
