Botswana coach Morena Ramorewboli admitted his side struggled to live with Senegal’s quality on the wings but insisted there were positives to build on despite a 3–0 loss in Tangier.

Nicolas Jackson’s brace and a late Cherif Ndiaye strike gave the defending champions a comfortable start to their AFCON 2025 campaign, yet Ramorewboli chose to focus on lessons rather than the scoreline.

He acknowledged that facing such experienced attackers exposed Botswana’s difficulties in coping with Senegal’s pace and movement out wide, an area he highlighted as a key problem during the match.

“It was a very competitive match and dealing with the experienced Senegal players on the wings gave us a lot of problems as we struggled to cope with their pace. But we did very well to contain them in many areas especially knowing that they were seen as the favourites for the match. We will correct our mistakes in the game to ensure we improve in those areas before the next game,” he said.

Botswana will play Benin in their next group D game on December 27th.
