Morocco has been dealt a hug blow after veteran defender Romain Saïss suffered an early injury scare in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Comoros.
The 35-year-old defender, who is the captain of the Atlas Lions was forced off with an injury after just 18 minutes into the highly competitive clash, held at the at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat on Monday, December 21, 2025.
Morocco will be sweating on the fitness of the experienced defender and his availability for the remaining games at the continental showpiece. Saïss was replaced Jawad El Yamiq, as Morocco inflicted a 2-0 win over Comoros.
Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz opened the scoring for the Atlas Lions before Ayoub El Kaabi cemented the win with e spectacular overhead kick strike.
The Al-Sadd defender seems to have picked up a muscle problem and will have to undergone the scans to determine the extent of his injury as the tournament unfolds.
Meanwhile, Morocco coach Walid Regragui and his charges will be hoping for a positive news as they prepare for the remainder of the tournament.
