Algerian striker, Fares Slimani, expresses disappointment following the draw with Angola in the opening match of the Greens’ journey in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The champions of the 2019 edition commenced their 2023 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Angola.
Slimani, selected as the best player in the match, stated, “We are not satisfied with the result.”
“Frankly, we didn’t offer much in the second half, unlike the first half.”
The Eintracht Frankfurt forward added, “We will take the result into consideration and work more.”
“We were seeking to deliver high levels and control the game.
We feel disappointed as the team did not play in its distinctive style.”
Christopher Maboulou, the striker from Egypt’s Al Ittihad Alexandria, led Angola to snatch a point from Algeria in the opening match of the fourth round in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Algeria took the lead in the 18th minute through Baghdad Bounedjah, while substitute Maboulou equalized with a penalty in the 68th minute.
Maboulou, a player from Al Ittihad Alexandria, won the top scorer award in the Egyptian League last season.
Algeria and Angola find themselves in Group Four alongside Burkina Faso and Mauritania in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
