AFCON 2025: Morocco coach Walid Regragui confirms Achraf Hakimi’s availability for tournament
Head coach of Morocco Walid Regragui has confirmed the availability of enterprising defender Achraf Hakimi for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Hakimi suffered an injury setback early November while in action for Paris Saint Germain in their Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
Despite the setback, the reigning African Footballer of the Year was named in the Morocco squad for the continental showpiece, which kick start two days’ time.
Speaking during a Thursday interview, Regragui expressed full confidence in the Paris Saint-Germain right-back’s readiness, stressing that Hakimi remains a key part of Morocco’s plans as they prepare to host AFCON 2025.
“Achraf will play in the Africa Cup of Nations, without a doubt,” Regragui stated.
“We are very positive about his involvement. He has rejoined the team and is preparing well alongside his teammates. As for the specific match or timing, we will keep that information private, but he will be with us, that is certain,” he added.
The 27-year-old has returned to full training with the national team and continues to show encouraging signs in camp. His involvement in team sessions has reassured the coaching staff, who are pleased with his physical condition and overall progress.
The 35th edition of the continental showpiece has been scheduled to run from December 21, 2025 through to January 18, 2025, with 24 countries set to battle it out for the trophy in Morocco.
