Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has declared the Atlas Lions’ clear ambition: to lift the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy.

Placed in Group A alongside Comoros, Zambia, and Mali, Morocco will kick off the tournament this weekend with the aim of making a strong statement on home soil.

Speaking to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Bounou emphasized that the squad is fully focused on one goal.

“All the players are fit and ready for the AFCON, which we are proud to host. Everything is going well, and the team is confident despite the huge responsibility of representing Morocco and competing to win the title,” Bounou said.

The CAF Goalkeeper of the Year also reflected on the special significance of playing in front of a home crowd.

“It’s a unique feeling for us. When we were young, we watched the AFCON or the World Cup on TV. Now, it’s our turn to play, and at home. There’s a lot of pride and responsibility in that,” he added.

Bounou praised the positive team environment and the confidence instilled by the coaching staff.

“The coach gives us great assurance to perform at our best. We thank all Moroccans for their support and hope they turn out in large numbers so we can share this journey together and give everything on the pitch,” he concluded.

Morocco will open their Group A campaign against Comoros on Sunday at 8:00 p.m., followed by matches against Mali on January 26 at 9:00 p.m. and Zambia on January 29 at 8:00 p.m.
