Henri Camara, the Senegalese striker and architect of his Greek club Panetoliko’s promotion to the first division, has been honored as the best player of the season. Speaking to the Senegalese Press Agency on Friday, Camara joyfully shared, “The announcement was made to me just now. I have just been voted the best player in the play-offs and in my club for the season.” This recognition comes on the heels of a remarkable performance by the former Sedan striker, who, at 36 years old, netted 13 goals during the season, including three in the play-offs.
Having represented the Lions of Senegal from 1999 to 2009, Camara harbors aspirations for two final selections with the national team, which would mark his 100th cap with the Lions. Reflecting on his football career, he expressed, “The national team is the best thing that has happened to me, but I am not begging for anything,” emphasizing his desire to extend his contract with his current club.
A key figure in the generation of Lions that propelled Senegal to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup, Henri Camara, who previously won the Swiss championship in 2001 with Grasshopper Zurich, continues to make a significant impact on the football scene.
