Morocco midfielder Bilal El Khannouss has struck a confident but grounded tone as the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 draws closer, insisting the Atlas Lions have only one objective on home soil — lifting the trophy.

Speaking to Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old described the tournament as a defining moment in the nation’s football history, stressing that hosting the competition removes any room for excuses.

“This is the most important competition in Morocco’s history, especially since it will be held in our country,” El Khannouss said.

“We have everything we need to deliver a strong tournament. Playing at home means we must take responsibility and do everything possible, together, to win the title.”

El Khannouss, who has been named in Morocco’s final squad for the tournament, has quickly grown into a key figure in Morocco’s midfield, offering energy, composure and sharp game awareness.

His profile complements experienced campaigners such as Sofyan Amrabat and Azzedine Ounahi as the squad blends youth with proven quality.

Morocco will compete in Group A at AFCON 2025, where they face Zambia, Comoros and Mali in the opening round.
