Senegal: HUGE Disagreement between FSF and Pape Thiaw over squad size for 2025 AFCON
Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has yet to announce his squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, initially expected on December 4.
Thiaw instead travelled to the United States to take part in the 2026 World Cup group draw, and the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has not provided an update on the AFCON roster since.
Sources indicate a disagreement between Thiaw and the FSF over squad size. The coach is reportedly advocating for a 27-player squad, while the federation prefers a 24-player limit.
The FSF’s stance is influenced by finances, as CAF covers only 23 players, leaving any extras to be funded by the national federation.
This year’s AFCON allows squads of up to 28 players, one more than the 27 permitted at the last tournament in Ivory Coast.
Senegal will face DR Congo, Benin, and Botswana in Group D.
