South Africa faces a setback just 78 hours before their first match against Equatorial Guinea in the 8th edition of the women’s CAN (African Women’s Cup of Nations). Midfielder Yola Japhta, who suffered a thigh injury, will have to return to South Africa. The team coach, Joseph Mkhonza, expressed regret over losing such an experienced player and wished her a speedy recovery. The team, however, remains determined to perform well in the tournament and aims to bring home the gold. The women’s CAN is scheduled from October 28 to November 14, 2012, with teams from Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, Senegal, DR Congo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Ethiopia participating.
